MINOR FIRES
A mantelpiece was slightly damaged when it was set alight by flames from a fireplace in a house at 22 Humboldt street, occupied by Katherine Higgs, yesterday. Units from the Sydenham brigade and headquarters answered the cal! at 5.3 a.m. Slight damage was caused by a fire which broke out in insulating oil surrounding temporary electrical equipment at the Empire Rubber Mills. Ltd.. Woolston. Units from the Woolston brigade and headquarters answered the call at 11.45 a.m., but on their arrival they found mill emplovees had extinguished the fire with their own equipment. / A chimney fire in a house at 26 Hanmer street, occupied by Mrs Una Fergusson, was attended by one unit from headquarters at 1.35 p.m. There was no damage. Another chimney fire was attended by one unit from St. Albans at 2.16 p.m. The house, which is at 101 Emmett street, is occupied by Mr W. J. Pooley.
