CHRISTCHURCH PONY CLUB
ONE DAY EVENT AT BELFAST A one-day event, made up of dressage, show jumping, and cross-country Contests, was held by the Riccarton-Fendalton branch of the Christchurch Pony Club on the property of Mr J. J. Johns, Belfast, yesterday. About 60 members of branches of the Christchurch Pony Club from many parts of Canterbury competed. In the cross-country phase, competitors were required to negotiate 19 jumps, including a water race, a splash jump, an obstacle at the bottom of a silage pit, gorse fences, and jumps set in a plantation. Nearly three-quarters of the starters completed the .course. Riders and ponies in all three phases of the event showed considerable improvement on their performances in a similar event held by the same branch about six months ago. No height limit was imposed for horses or ponies, but there were age limits for nders. A The event was held as a trial for the Al Cup, a competition held annually in different centres of New Zealand to select the best junior rider in the Dominion. y? a r the cup will be competed for in Christchurch, and it is expected that teams of riders from many parts of New Zealand will take part. Results:— Bangor Cup, for the best team, 16 years or under: Riccarton C team (G. SatterthSl 2l r J ey Rogers, and Raymond Ward-Smith).
