MOUNTAIN CLUBS’ FEDERATION
MR E. M. WILSON NEW PRESIDENT Mr E. M. Wilson, president of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club, was elected president of the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand at the twenty-fourth annual meeting of the federation in Christchurch on Saturday. An executive member of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club for 23 years, Mr Wilson has been president for two years. He was a foundation member of the Canterbury-Westland section of the New Zealand Alpine Club and has served the section as‘ treasurer. Mr Wilson has also served on the executive committee of the central organisation of Alpine Clubs. He is also patron of the Craigieburn Valley Ski Club. A foundation member of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Deerstalkers’ Association, Mr Wilson has also been an executive member of the branch since its inception. Other officers elected yere:— Patron, Mr A. P. Harper; vicepresidents, Messrs L. D. Bridge (Wellington), A. P. Thomson (Christchurch), and A.. L. Ward (Auckland) and Dr. B. .Roddtf (Dunedin): secretary, Mr A. X Heine (Wellington); treasurer, Mr H.>J. C. Haines (Wellington); committee, Messrs F. P. Eade (Christchurch), R. C. Jefferys (Wellington), G. McCallum (Wellington), D. A. McMorlahd (Nelson), S. C.‘ V. Muirson (Christchurch), H. E. Riddiford (Wellington), H. A. Service (Auckland), R. Syme (Hawera), and T. P. Wilson (Dunedin). Tributes were paid to the work of the retiring president, Mr A. H, Hines, and to Mr R. C. Jeffreys, who retired from the post of secretary after four years’ service. Sixty-two clubs with a membership of more than 11,050 are now affiliated with’ the federation.
