AIRMAN TO JOIN ARMY
Service In Malaya As Parachutist (New Zealand 'Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 20. A specialist serving member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force was among the enlisted men who had been chosen for New Zealand’s Special Air Service for Malaya, said the Army’s Director of Public Relations (Major H. L. Heatley) today. He is Leading Aircraftsman G. A. Blanchard of the R.N.Z.A.F. station at Ohakea, whose work is largely the maintenance and packing of parachutes. ' The squadron will be a paratroooing unit. L.A.C. Blanchard has served with Britain s 16th Airborne Division, and was grant ’d his parachute badge in 1948. He has made 13 parachute jumps in New Zealand and is recognised by the Civil Aviation Administration as a parachute instructor. As a parachute-packer, he is classed as a safety-equipment worker. Still serving at Ohakea, L.A.C. Blanchard will transfer to the Army within the next three weeks.
