NEW HOUSES IN WAIMAIRI
2192 BUILT SINCE 1947 A total of 296 dwellings was included in the 804 building permits of a value of £1,252,692 issued by the Waimairi County Council for the year ended March 31 last. The permits in the previous year were 1100 of a value of £1,250,642. The average cost of the dwellings was £2600 against ££46B in 1953-54, according to statistics presented to a meeting of the council. The dwellings for the various ridings were: Wairarapa 55. Fendalton 671, Belfast 8, Marshland 29, Middleton 31, Papanui 44. Harewood 37, Styx 25. New dwellings erected in the county since April. 1947, were: Wairarapa 419, Fendalton 441, Belfast 99, Marshland 264, Middleton 250, Papanui 283, Harewood 251, Styx 147. Permits were granted last year for 52 commercial buildings valued at ’£200,136, two light industrial buildings and 13 other buildings of a value of £202,841.
