ARREST OF ARMED MAN
ACCUSED REMANDED FOR SENTENCE (New Zealand Press Association) , , AUCKLAND, April 26. Found by a police sergeant at 10.15 p.m. on Sunday lying on his stomach under a thick bush, with a loaded rifle, man, whose name was suppressed, pleaded guilty to three charges when he appeared before Mr F. McCarthy S mi.’ m the Magistrate’s Court today. The charges were: that while drunk he was found in possession of a .303 ri ammunition, that he carried a .303 rifle, and that he used obscene language in a public place. .Sub-Inspector H. E. Campin sMd that the accused arrived honie in a drunken condition and was put to bed. VP and told h is wife he would ge L hls neighbour, and that if he could not “get” him in any other way, he would shoot him.
The accused obtained a rifle and placed a bullet in the breach. While his wife was talking to him the rifle discharged and a bullet went through the floor of a cupboard. His Wife was unsuccessful in getting the rifle, and the accused took several more bullets and reloaded it.
Sub-Inspector Campin said the accused called to his neighbour, and another shot was fired. No damage was done. In the meantime, the police were called. Sergeant E. Jensen found the accused lying on his stomach under a thick bush, with the rifle fully loaded, ready to fire.
When arrested the accused was very drunk and threatened to “get” everyone present. On the application of Mr W. White, tiie accused’s name was suppressed. Remanding the accused for a week for sentence, the Magistrate called for a report from a psychiatrist, and refused an application for baiL
