PETITION TO SAVE HOUSE AT CUST
A petition to the Minister of Railways (Mr J. K. McAlpine) protesting at the proposed removal of a railway ganger’s house from the district has been prepared by residents of Cunt. The petition says that it is believed that offers have been made to buy the house and that it should not be removed from the township. When completed. the petition, which has already been signed by a large number of residents! will be handed to the member of Parliament for Hurunui (Mr W. H- Gillespie) tor presentation to the Minister. The four-toomed house, although not new, is in good condition and on a good section. It is believed that the Railways Department proposes to move the house to Amberley ta the next few weeks. Residents consider that as no State houses have been built ta the district the opportunity to buy the ganger's house would ease the need for houses ' there.
