TROTTING Trueco And False Step Main Winners At Methven

Hie three-year-old, Trueco, which began racing last September, added to a good record when he beat a big field in the J. McCloy Memorial Handicap, the main race and second leg of the double at the Methven Trotting Club’s autumn meeting on Saturday Trueco won well and deserved his success, but the placed horses, Marshall Foi, Kingsdown Direct and All In, all appeared a little unlucky. Two furlongs further on. Stavanger took over, and he led past the stands from Kingsdown Direct Currency and Marshall Foi (outside) S®? Triple Crown moved from the rear of the field to be alongside Stavanger at the half-mile, and he took over to' lead round the home turn from Trueco, Marshall Foi, Kingsdown Direct and All In. In a mix-up on the turn Gold Direct and Waitaki Joe fell, and Kingsdown Direct, and AR In were among those to be checked. Triple Crown reached the end of his run just after straightening, and Trueco came through outside the furlong. Kingsdown Direct and Marshall Foi challenged solidly, and in a hard finish, Trueco won well by a length, with Marshall Foi beating Kingsdown Direct by a nose for second. Kingsdown Direct was a length and a half clear of AU In which finished solidly, and there was a gap of five lengths to Triple Crown, which just shaded Currency. Two lengths back, Gay Cobra and Bedivus led in Dauntless, Pennyfare, Red Hackle, Sir Roger and Kierlock.

AMATEUR TRAINER FINED A. V. Robertshaw was fined £lO, at the Methven Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, for entering as the trainer of Procrastinator in the Lyndhurst Trot Handicap, when he was the holder of an amateur trainer’s licence only. Robertshaw was also ordered to pay D. J. Townley a losing driving fee.
