Guerrillas Lose Fierce Actions
RANGOON, April 23. The Burmese War Office announced tonight that Burmese troops had inflicted heavy casualties on Chinese Nationalist guerrillas in severe hand-to-hand fighting along the Burma-Siam border in the Southern Shan States. A communique said that Burmese troops had killed 150 Chinese Nationalists in the operations which began on April 4. Several more Chinese were killed in artillery and air action, but the number of 4 hese casualties could not be calcula'' I. In a sin le hand-to-hand encounter the Burmese killed 60 Chinese Nationalists, the communique said. Burmese casualties were put at one officer and seven cither rankt killed and 30 wounded.
Last Wednesday Burmese troops captured Loi Lang, an important Chinese Nationalist base, the communique said. Troops launched an offensive in March to clear the area of an estimated 2000 guerrilla remnants of the Nationalists who entered Burma after the civil wab in China.
