U.S. Reaction “Too Hasty”
(Rec. 11.45 p.m.) BANDUNG, April 25. Sir John Kotelawela. Ceylon’s Prime Minister, said today that United States reaction to Communist China’s proposal for negotiations on relaxing-ten-sion in the Formosa area was “too hasty.” He suggested that there should first be an informal conference among the five Colombo Powers, Communist China, the United States, and those interested, like the Philippines and Siam, on the Formosan question. But the United States’ “hasty reaction Had made things more difficult.” “The ray of hope now is that Communist China has agreed to negotiate and not to be aggressive,” he said at Bandung airport. He said he thought that the AsianAfrican conference had been “very successful.”
