RAIL STRIKE THREAT
Drivers Reject Appeal
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, April 21. Britain today moved one stage nearer a major rail strike in 10 days time when the train crews* leaders rejected a second appeal from the British Transport Commission to reconsider their strike decision. The executive of the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen has ordered 70,000 members to strike on May 1 in a demand for increased wages. After the meeting -today the union leaderts conferred with the general purposes committee of the Trades Union Congress. The Transport Commission operates Britain’s nationalised rail system.
