FOOD HYGIENE REGULATIONS
BREACHES PREVALENT IN CHRISTCHURCH
COUNCIL AUTHORISES PROSECUTIONS
The Food Hygiene Regulations, 1952, will be rigidly enforced in Christchurch. The City Council agreed to this last evening after learning from the Chief City Inspector (Mr J. W. Huggins) that in spite of repeated verbal warnings breaches were prevalent. Mr Huggins’s report quoted breaches such as cooked and uncooked meat being stored in the same department, fruit displayed outside shops closer to the ground than 18 inches, and fruit such as grapes displayed outside without any protection. The inspector was authorised to institute proceedings against blatant offenders.
