INVERCARGILL WOOL SALE

PRICES LOWER THAN IN FEBRUARY

STEADY COMPETITION FOR 34,000 BALES (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, April 22. Wool sold today at Invercargill’s third sale for the season r alised a lower average price than at the previous sale in February. The average today was about 54d; in February, it was 54.75 d. Thirty-four thousand bales were offered today, bringing Southland’s total for the year to 116,000. bales. At an average of £72 a bale, the proceeds for the day were about £250,000.

Last year’s sales totalled 103,400 bales, and production has risen this year by about 12 per cent. Buying was steady today with Cbntinental buyers bidding for fleece wools. The strongest buyers were from Bradford, but local buyers also participated strongly. The wool opened was in good condition, and was slightly heavier than is usual at this time of the year.
