NEW DRAINAGE BOARD WORKS
SPECIAL COMMITTEE ESTABLISHED . A standing committee was appointed by the Christchurch Drainage Board on Tuesday to deal with all matters of construction work. The chairman (Mr H. P. Smith) said the board’s business was 'growing tremendously, and he felt that there were enough major works in hand and shortly to be undertaken to warrant the setting-up of the committee. The works committee had been sitting on occasions from 7.30 p.m. until well after midnight He did not suggest that' any of the committee’s business did not receive proper consideration, but a division of work would allow more time to be given to major construction. Some subdivision of responsibility among executive staff was necessary if the committee was to function properly, said Mr F. R. Price. Perhaps there could be a change in status of the assistant engineer to associateengineer and he could be responsible for new work. Messrs C. S. Luney, R. C. Neville, Price, W. P. Glue, and A J. McTainsh were elected to the committee. Mr C. Williams, who declined nomination, said quite a few members did not do much work. He had enough to do working on one committee, and he hoped others .would attend. Mr Smith: They will soon hear about it if they don’t. Mr Luney said he would wish to give his full time to the new committee and be relieved from the works committee.
