CONSERVATION OF POWER
RESTRICTIONS IN RICCARTON
VOLUNTARY SAVINGS INADEQUATE
Restrictions will be imposed on electricity consumption in Riccarton borough from next Monday. This has been decided by the Riccarton Borough Council’s electricity committee, which considers that the appeal for voluntary saving has had an unsatisfactory response. The chairman of the committee (Cr. V. G. Spiller) has announced the following restrictions:— All electric advertising signs are prohibited except between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. daily. All shop lighting, inside -and outside, is prohibited after business hours, except with the permission of the committee.
Interior and window shop lighting while shops are open will be reduced to a minimurn. INo exterior lights must be used without permission of the committee. No electric space heaters must be used between 10 and 8 p.m. Use of domestic water heaters will be reduced from 20 hours a day to 16 hours a day. This requires no action by the consumers, and will be* attended to from the sub-stations. These hours will be increased or reduced aceording to the savings, effected. Industrial consumers must reduce their consumption by 10 per cent.
