TARANAKI CUP PLACINGS
APPEAL BY OWNER OF PAPIRO (New Zealand Prase' Association) 7 NEW PLYMOUTH, April 20. Mr R. Gray, owner of Papiro, has notified the Taranaki District Committee cf his intention to lodge an appeal with the New Zealond Racing Conference against the decision of an appeal sub-committee of the District Committee placing Omalass first in the Taranaki Cup and Papiro second. The race was held on the second day of the Taranaki Jockey Club's autumn meeting cn March 14 and was won by Omalass by a nose from Papiro. The trainer of Papiro, J. L. Muir, protested on the ground of interference by Omalass to Papiro in the final stages. The protest was upheld by the club’s judicial committee, and Papiro was promoted to first and Omalass relegated to second. The owner of Omalass, Mr D. Lupton, of Waverley, subsequently appealed against this decision, and the appeal subcommittee of the Taranaki District Committee upheld his appeal.
