MOTOR-CYCLIST FINED
“You were worse than an intoxicated person. I regard this as a highly dangerous performance,” said the Magistrate, Mr Rex C. Abernethy, at a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Rangiofa, yesterday, convicting Robert James Frazer on a charge of driving a motor-cycle in a manner which might have been dangerous. Evidence was given by Traffic Officer E. L. P. Sloane that on March 20, Frazer drove without lights along the Tram road about 7.45 pm. at a speed of more than 50 miles an hour, going over three crossings as he did so. A week later witness cautioned Frazer at Cust for not having lights. Frazer was fined £6 and his licence to drive was cancelled for six months. Other breaches of traffic regulations were dealt with as follows:—* Excessive speed: Norman G. Blazey, £2; Trevor Joy, £2; Ivan Chapman, £2.
Carrying pillion passenger contrary to regulations, Takawaenga Terewa Mokomoko. £3 (failing to display learner’s plates, 20s). Insufficient lights: William Hector Mclntosh, 30s (no warrant of fttnaig. 20s: no heavy traffic licence, 40s); Carrying on goods service without licence: Richard Charles Wright, dismissed. Decision Reserved Decision was reserved on a charge against Leonard Frederick Woodsford, licensee of the Junction Hotel, Rangi, ora, of employing a person under the age of 21 (his son) in the bar on March 18 on the question as to whether the word employment meant working for payment or reward. On a judgment summons W. A. Jarden was ordered to pay M. T. J. Waddell £52 Ils forthwith, ta default 53 days’ imprisonment.
