FORMER MEMBERS OF W.A.A.F.
ANNUAL CHRISTCHURCH REUNION
“And do you remember when . . .” was a much-used phrase last evening at the annual Christchurch reunion of former members of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. The function was arranged by the women’s section of the Christchurch branch of the Air Force Association, and held at Elizabeth House.
Nearly 100 women from many grrts of Canterbury, the West Coast, as far afield as Dunedin, attendee the gathering, which took the form of a buffet dinner, followed by a conversazione.
For many, it was an opportunity to renews friendships made during their term Jnf service, with the result that most of the, evening was spent chatting informally, or singing round the piano.
The nresident of the section (Mrs Maia Williamson), assisted by the secretary (Mrs Nancy Bruce), welcomed the guests. Mrs Williamson announced that the Dominion reunion of members of the W.A.A.F. would be held next year in Christchurch, during Battle of Britain week-end. The celebrations would be held at the R.N.Z.A.F. station. Wigram. She also appealed to members to support the Christchurch Rotary Club’s appeal for the aged. Specially-invited guests included Mrs F. Dix and Mrs F. Wilding. The patron (Lady Clark-Hall) was unable to attend because of ill-health. Mrs’ Williamson wore a ballerinalength frock of powder blue and silver brocade. Mrs Bruce’s frock of beige lace was mounted on brown taffeta.
