PROPOSED POWER LINE.—The broken line on this map shows the route of a proposed transmission line of 220,000 volts from Roxburgh to Nelson. The route takes the most direct practicable line through the South Island, clearing towns, main roads and telephone lines. Transformer stations are located outside Christchurch and Nelson so that feeder lines leading to the cities will be kept at the normal voltage used. From Roxburgh hydro station another transmission line runs to Dunedin. From Kikiwa, 42 miles south of Nelson, a branch line will go to Inangahua Junction, 30 miles from Westport.
