NEW SELECTORS APPOINTED
MESSRS J. D. MORTON AND N. J. MCPHAIL Canterbury has two new senior Rugby selectors this season. They are Messrs N. J. McPhail (forwards) and J. D. Morton (backs). They were elected, from five nominations, by the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening. Those nominated ifrere Messrs McPhail and C. S. Line (forwards), Morton, D. P. White, and J. R. Roach (backs). For the last two years the selectors have been Messrs J. G. Rankin (forwards) and White. At the end of last season Mr Rankin anounced that he would not be available for nomination this year. The committee last evening decided to write to Mr White expressing appreciation of his Services. Mr Morton, a former Christchurch Club five-eighths, played representative Rugby for several seasons for Canterbury, Wellington, Otago, and Nelson. Mr McPhail played for the Old Boys’ Club, for Canterbury, the South Island, and the Kiwis, the services’ team which toured New Zealand in 1946.
