TRENTHAM TRACK WORK

HASTINGS CANDIDATES IMPRESS “Tha Prat" Spatial. Sartica WELLINGTON, April 19. Trantham atables will have only three horses rating at Hastings on Saturday, but two of them, Shaun and Idaho, worked well enough today to Indicate that they will have good winning chances. The third, Glenlee, did atrong pacework. A team of nine horses from Trentham will compete on the first day ot the Marlborough meeting on Saturday, but they did little fast work today. , Galloping took place on the plough and the trial grass. Neither track waa fast. Shaun (Perawiti) ran seven furlongs in Imln 31 3-Ssec on the plough. His last half-mile took 53 3-ssec. He waa galloping easily at the finish. He has progressed well since his two Tauherenikau races.

In a limit field for the Hastings Hack Cup, one mile and three furlongs. Shaun is top-weight with 9-0, but there la not a great deal of form behind many of those lower in the weights. On the trial gris, Idaho (Nuttall) beat Tarwe (Rage) by a length at the end of seven furlongs in Imln 31 l-ssec. Sectional times could not be taken because of fog, but the pace was on only over the last three furlongs. Idaho has been beaten by Redcraze twice at weight-f6r-age, in the North Island Challenge Stakes and the Awapunl Gold Cup, but Redcraze may find him harder to beat in the Ormond Memorial Gold Cup. where the long straight will be more in Idaho's favour. 4 Warm Air (W. Wylie), which will race on the Nelspn-Blenheim circuit, covered the last three of four furlongs on the plough in 3 84-ssec. She appeared to be walking tenderly afterwards. Glenlee (Stokes) did strong pace work. If she competes in the Ormond Gold Cup, she will be ridden by W. J. Broughton. Chattan, her stablemate, is unlikely to race again. She was knocked at the finish of her race in the Maftinborough Handicap at Tauherenikau, where she finished fourth, and has a cracked sesamoid. Her wins included the Tauherenikau and Stepfeldt Stakes. T. P. Biggs will leave for Blenheim tomorrow, with Mr J. H. Marshall’s trio, Sleipnir, Imprudent, and Danger, and the two-year-old Globemaster. These were not timed today, because of fog, but Sleipnir in particular looks in good order and should win a race on the circuit. He finished a useful third, behind John Gilpin z and Lucrative, at Tauherenikau at his last start.

Globemaster looks well after his first race on Easter Saturday. He looks ready for a winning bid shortly. Sea Front and Sidena, which are also travelling to Blenheim today, were not worked fast. A. C. Messervy will ride them at Blenheim, but if Sea Front starts in the Waterlea High-weight, he will be ridden by P. L. Jago. None of W. J. Bromby’s Blenheim team was worked fast. They include Inaugural, Kataban, and Incomparable. They will be ridden by T. S. Carbin. Foghorn, which will contest the Marlborough Cup, was worked fast on Monday. He looks well, and will have a good chance if the track cases. K. A. Nuttall will ride Shaun and Idaho at
