PAPUAN OIL WELL TO BE ABANDONED
Australasian Petroleum Company, Pty., Ltd., and Island Exploration Company Pty., Ltd., propose to abandon the Omati No. 1 well in. Papua. The well has been drilled to 14,352 feet—as deep as is operationally possible, the companies report. Testing of the well below 13,740 feet yielded a small quantity of gas with evidence of condensate content. Tests will be made of certain upper formations in the well before it is abandoned. A new well at Aramia has been spudded in. It has reached a depth of 259'feet. Omati No. 2 well has been drilled to 9581 feet, a gain of 747 feet in the month.
