ROWING COURSE AT KERRS REACH
OBSTRUCTION BY CUT WEEDS
Until some way is devised of removing cut weed from the river, much of the Christchurch Drainage Board’s weed-cutting in the Avon is being nullified.
The board’s works committee reported this last evening when the Canterbury Rowing Association drew attention to the difficulty rowers had in using Kerrs reach as a rowing course because of the heavy growth of weeds in the river and floating cut weeds in the lower reaches. “Much of the difficulty would be overcome if the cut weeds could be removed from the river,” the committee said. . “The portable dragline was acquired mainly for this work, but difficulty has been experienced in diverting the cut weed to points where the dragline can reach it.”
