FIRE DANGER AT HOSPITAL
REPRESENTATIONS BY WAIKATO BOARD
(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, April 18. The Minister of Health (Mr J. R. Hanan) is to be invited to inspect the Rotorua Public Hospital, which was seriously damaged by fire on March 15. This was decided at a meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board today, when it was suggested by Mr E. G. Guy that board members should confer with the Minister at Rotorua in the first week in May. For many years the board had been making very strong representations about the fire danger at the hospital, said Mr Guy. A temporary outpatients’ ward had now been built, and the board must review future requirements. In a report the medical superintendent at the hospital (Dr. E. H. Bridgman) said that the outpatients’ department, which was destroyed by the fire, had become far too small for efficient working.
