They have in all cases put their empty bottles out and in the usual places, and they pay for their milk regularly. supervising foreman at the Christchurch Milk Company says he is receiving, especially during weekends an increasing number of telephone calls from annoyed consumers because of failure of delivery. They nave m some cases delivered it, but the problem is getting too big, and something should be done about it. some 20 odd complaints were received during Easter. ‘‘The custodian of the City Council chambers also receives numbers of complaints regarding the same trouble, several during Easter and regularly at other times.
I h a Y e °n two or three occasions collected and delivered milk to missed consumers, but the milk board’s staff should not be held responsible for the neglect by some milk roundsmen to organise a system to ensure delivery to all their customers. I trust the board will view this trouble as an urgent matter.”
. Mr Huggins said a factor contributing to the complaints received over Easter might have been the fact that some vendors took a few days’ holiday and left their rounds in the charge of men not familiar with the round.
In fairness to the decent vendors the careless ones should be made to improve their service, said Miss M. B. Howard, M.P. “When they take on this job milk vendors know it is a seven-day-a-week job and if they don’t like it or can t keep it up they should sell their round. The public are entitled to a seven-day-a-week service.” A letter of complaint signed by four residents of the Jeffreys road and Bryndwr road was received in committee. The chairman (Mr L. P. Christie) later announced that the vendor concerned would be asked to appear before the board’s emergency commit-
