Sir,—l entirely agree with your correspondent “Citizen” —both of him. One would have thought £lOOO or so a year not too bad for a job that, one gathers, allows a fair amount of spare time for other “gainful employment”; though the really conscientious member of Parliament, no doubt, works a good deal harder than many of us realise.' But it is the principle involved that is, I think, more important far than any other consideration. With periodical gloomy forebodings of inflationary spirals and what not, Parliament, surely, should be the first to give the nation a lead in restraint, even at the cost of some inconvenience to individual members. —Yours, etc., M.T.
