EIRE BORDER THREAT
Meetings Called By Sinn Fein (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, April 18. An armed attack before long on the border between Eire and Northern Ireland was threatened at Irish Republican Army recruiting meetings held throughout Eire at the week-end. An I.R.A. official, Mr R. S. Loragan, speaking at Tuam, predicted “a military move against the border by the I.R.A. in the foreseeable future.” He accused Eire’s leaders of having given up their advocacy of physical force without showing an alternative. Mr Joseph McCrystal, also an LR.A. official, speaking at Tuam, said: “The I.R.A. will tackle the job of ending the border with guns in their hands.” “Within the next few years we will
make the Six Counties so hot that England will not be able to hold on to them,” he said. At meetings throughout Eire last Saturday and Sunday, I.R.A. leaders issued a call to young men to enter the military army of Sinn Fein—the I.R.A.—to be trained in the use of arms to “achieve complete independency and freedom for the nation.” [Tiie political branch of Sinn .Fein is contesting Northern Ireland’s 12 seats in the British General Election on May 25.1
