COMMISSION ON BANKING
APPOINTMENTS MADE TO STAFF (New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, April 18. The Minister of Finance (Mr J. T. Watts) announced today that Mr A. McGregor, chief research officer of the Treasury Department, and Mr F. W. Holmes, senior lecturer in economics at Victoria University College, had been appointed to the staff of the Royal Commission on the monetary, banking, and credit system.
“It was intended.’’ said Mr Watts, “that the two appointments, one from the Public Service and one from the university, would assist the commission with the examination of witnesses and. subject to the direction of the Commission, would give any other help required.”
Mr McGregor, who is in charge of the economic research branch of the Treasury Department, holds the degiee of master of commerce, and is a qualified accountant. He was a member of the New Zealand delegation to t ie Commonwealth Finance Ministers’ conference held at Sydney in January.
Mr Holmes holds the degree of master of arts, with first-class honours in economics. Since January, 1952, he has been lecturing in economics at Victoria University College. Mr Watts said that the commission was entitled to all the assistance the Government could provide. While assisting the commission Messrs McGregor and Holmes would be seconded for duty, and would in no sense be representing either the Treasury Department or Victoria University College.
