Parties Prepare Campaigns
(N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, April 16. Britain’s political parties swung into action today for a General Election on May 26, with political chiefs planning campaigns.
Party headquarters sent out instructions to the 630 constituency areas throughout Britain, preparing them for the contest, announced last night by Sir Anthony Eden in a two-minute nation-wide broadcast.
He informed the nation that he had asked the Queen to dissolve Parliament on May 6, to allow the statutory 21 days’ campaigning before a General Election.
Party circulars to local political organisations instructed them to prepare immediately lists of available public halls to bring the records of voters up to date and to appoint political agents men who will run the parties’ campaigns locaii j ■
