KAIKOURA COUNTY FINANCES
DEBIT BALANCE FOR YEAR REDUCED BY £6447
An improvement of £6447 in the general account, from a debit balance of £7073 to a debit of £626 for the 12 months ended March 31, was disclosed in the financial statement presented to the monthly meeting of the Kaikoura County Council. The County Township had begun the period with a debit of £1791 and had a debit balance of £2493 on March 31, said the report.
A decrease of more than £5OOO in the electricity department from a credit of £384 to a debit of £4653 had been accounted for by the purchase of an alternator, the extension of the reticulation, and replacement of wooden poles with concrete poles in the area, said the chairman (Cr. H J Hewson). More than 400 concrete poles had been made by the council Approval of the following line improvements at an estimated cost of £3242 were made by the councU: completion of Beach road line, from Ministry of Works office to powerhouse; from Kaikoura District High' School to Lovett’s transformer- from Yarmouth street to Brighton street: from Deal street to the Main South road. Erection of transformers and general maintenance were included m the estimate.
