PRICE OF MEAT OFFALS

Sir, —I am indeed >glad to read in "The Press” of April 13 that the Dunedin branch of the National Council of Women has taken up the subject of the steep increase in the price of small goods, such as kidneys, lambs’ livers, tongues, sweetbreads end hearts. Even though these greatly increased prices were charged because many butchers are buying their meat direct from the freezing works, that does not mean that some butchers don’t kill their own. As soon as overseas prices were released, up went local prices of small goods. I read that this branch has sent a letter forward to Mrs Ross, Minister .of Social Welfare, asking if at least. 20 per cent, of meat offal can be sold in our country at the old prices. The Housewives’ Union should be interested in this request and note presentday prices.—Yours, etc., SMALL. PURSE. April 16, 1955.
