BOARD OF TRADE DECISIONS
IMPORTERS CRITICISE « DELAYS "The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, April 14. The Bureau of Importers dislikes the Government’s delay in announcing Board of Trade recommendations. In its annual report, the bureau says some decisions have been withheld for as long as three years. This would appear to defeat the object of the board and to waste public money, the report says, The board was set up to try to find “an honest answer” to many problems left by the previous Government. New Zealand representatives of overseas principals are also dissatisfied, according to the bureau, because much time and money is spent on visiting New Zealand to attend board hearings. Tardy publication of decisions is unfair to them, and they might cease to attend. By constant pressure on the Government, the bureau hopes it can get prompt announcements of board recommendations. It wants import con-, trol removed entirely. Tariffs, not con-' trols, it claims, should protect industries which need protection.
