GARVELPARK SAILS UNDERMANNED
POLICE SEARCH FOR NINE OF GREW

The Garvelpark was due to leave New Plymouth at noon yesterday, but in the morning it was found that nine of the crew of 40 were missing. A tenth had failed to join the ship at Auckland. No suitable replacements could be found in New Plymouth, but the owners’ agents, the New Zealand Shipping Company, found three men in Wellington. They were flown £o New Plymouth, and with another deckhand, who had arrived on the morning express from Auckland, were signed on late yesterday afternoon. Warrants for the. arrest of the nine
men who failed to join the ship at New Plymouth were issued yesterday morning, but none of them had been found today.
