N.Z. AIR DEFENCE ORGANISATION
Women Sought As Recruits UNITS FORMED IN THREE CITIES (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 12. A recruiting campaign is under way for young women for New Zealand’s civilian-manned Air Defence Organisation, which has units in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. Women are required as radar operators and for plotting aircraft movements. It is believed to be the only Territorial unit to provide service for women. Among volunteers are women with previous service experience both in Britain and New Zealand. The use of women as radar operators and fighter plotters was developed successfully in World War 11. Besides their training periods throughout the year, the women will also take a full part in the organisation’s major exercises, the first of which was held in February.
