NO LONGER SAFE FOR PICNICS.—This rugged church site on the side of the Kikuyu escarpment, on the main road leading northwards from Nairobi to Uganda, was a favourite picnic spot in the Nairobi district. Now a notice warns the public of the danger from terrorist gangs. The little Italian church was built by prisoners-of-war, camped in the bush while they were building an alltarmac road nearby, during the Second World War.
