AWARDS ANNOUNCED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 12. The following New Zealand University blues were awarded to-night at the end of the Easter University, tournament:— Athletics.—W. R. Belcher (Canterbury), B. K. Cameron (Canterbury), T. Henshall (Otago), H. Hilliam (Auckland), P. Joyce (Victoria), D. Smith (Auckland), and Miss P. Butchers (Otago). Basketball.—Miss P. Butchers (Otago), Miss R. Fillery (Auckland), and Miss E. Higgins (Otago). Boxing.—M. Mosaed (Victoria) and D. Tee (Auckland). Rowing.—D. McDonald (Otago), J. Sinclair (Otago), and C. J. Sewell (Canterbury). Shooting.—l. R. Larsen (Auckland), T. R. Mercer (Canterbury), and R. W. Kingsley (Canterbury). Swimming.—J. Broomfield (Canterbury). T. Eagle (Auckland). P. Garratt (Canterbury), J. Hamilton (Victoria), P. Heim (Auckland), R. Leek (Otago), and L. Ronald (Otago). Water polo.—R. Leek (Otago). Tennis.—B. R. Boon (Victoria) and Miss B. Nelson (Victoria). As the cricket match between Auckland and New Zealand University has not yet finished, cricket blues were not considered.
AUCKLAND WINS LAW STUDENT CONTEST
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 12. Auckland law students beat the Wellington law students by three points in the final of a mock “court of appeal” held before Mr Justice Shetland in the Supreme Court at Auckland today. The Auckland team won for the first time the trophy given by the New Zealand Law Society for competition at the annual University Easter tournament. The first contest was held in 1950.
The Auckland representatives were Messrs P. B. Temm and B. H. Clark, and Messrs T. A. de Cleene and C. G. Hubbard were the Wellington pair.
