BOMB WRECKS BUILDING
SYDNEY NEWSPAPER OFFICE SYDNEY, April 12. An explosion and fire last night wrecked the £50,000 building and plant of the “Torch” newspaper in the Sydney suburb of Bankstown. Detectives are trying to discover whether a time-bomb caused the explosion. Members of the family, who have owned the paper for 35 years, said they believe that someone with a grudge against them planted a bomb in the building. One of them said that a few weeks ago an anonymous telephone caller said: “We are going to put a bomb under you to get square.”
The “Torch” is a free weekly newspaper.
Mr D. T. English, general manager and director of the newspaper company, said: “In our 35 years of fearless publishing we have made a lot of enemies. I believe that enemies of the family planted a bomb in the building.”
