HOSPITAL VISITORS’ ASSOCIATION
GIFT OF CHILDREN’S BOOKS MADE
The monthly meeting of the Hospital Lady Visitors’ Association was held at the hospital. Mrs F. E. Wait (president) presided. It was reported that nurses had been in residence in the Adeline Turner rest cottage at Sumner almost continuously during the month and had sent donations and letters of appreciation. The cpttage was in good order and was inspected frequently by the sub-committee.
Mrs L. M. Molineaux reported that a gift of children’s books had been sent in, for which she wished to tnank Miss Joan Wilkinson and Miss B.owsher. The books had been divided amongst the children’s ward in the Christchurch Hospital, the children in Burwood Hospital, the home for cerebral palsied children, and Mr P. J. Toomey for the leper children. She thanked the following for gifts of books and magazines:—Mrs Booker, Mrs Fenwick, Mrs Lancaster. Mrs C. Johnston, Mrs Kilian, Mrs G. Fulton, Miss Pauline Ellwood, Mr J. Miller, the members of the Round Table Club, and an anonymous donor. It was reported that the sewing circle was meeting regularly every fortnight. Numerous knitted articles feeders, and jug covers had been made for the hospital, and an electric sewing machine had been bought and was now in use.tit was greatly appreciated by the workers. RED CROSS SOCIETY SPREYDON SUB-CENTRE Mrs H. Sturge presided at the April meeting of the Spreydon sub-centre of the Red Cross Society. Mrs A. B. Ross, from the Red Cross centre, gave an account of the new building project. It was decided that the May jneeting be a musical afternoon party with a bring and buy sale to raise the sub-branch’s quota for the building fund. It was noted that seven members had prepared vegetables on each Monday and Thursday of March for the good neighbour service.
