KAIKOURA DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL
NEW BUILDING BLOCK OPENED
secondary department block at the Kaikoura District High School was opened on Thursday by Mr T. P. Mem ber of Parliament for Marlborough, on behalf of the Minister of Education (Mr R. M. Algie). The chairman of the schorl committee (Mr V J. Corbett) presided. The Canterbury Education Board was represented by Messrs F. T. Ager (Rangiora) and A. S. Murray (Cheviot) members of the Board and Mr J. Bigg (architect). Mr H. J. Hewson (chairman) represented the Kaikoura County Council. The chairman (Mr H. J. Hewson) of the Kaikoura County Council extended a welcome to Mr and Mrs Shand. Mr Shand apologised for the absence of Mr Algie who extended good wishes. Mr Shand told the pupils that the school had much to be proud of in the exploits of its old pupils. On behalf of the contractors, Mr Godfrey Hislop handed the key of the new block to Mr Shand who declared the building open. , Sprays were presented to Mrs Shand and Mrs Corbett by Marjorie Hynam and Mavie Williams (prefects). After inspecting the building, the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea in the technical training centre by Secondary School pupils under Miss Shirley Wells.
