N.Z. UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT

OTAGO WINS SHIELD VICTORIA EXCELS IN TENNIS (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 11. With a decisive victory in the swimming, the final section of the New Zealand University tournament, Otago University retained the Summer Sports Shield today. Unofficial points for the colleges were: Otago, 44J; Auckland, 33J; Canterbury, 17; Victoria, 16. A fine display by Victoria College in the tennis was a feature of the tournament today. The athletics were marked by fine individual efforts, rather than recordbreaking times and distances. Auckland’s Miss Colleen Moran won the three women’s sprint events, but even her efforts could not stop Otago from dominating the women’s section and gaining a comfortable points lead. Another triple winner was R. Irwin (Otago), who won the two men’s sprints and set a moderate time in the 440 yards. P. Joyce (Victoria), who won the mile on Saturday, was the winner of the three miles todhy. Auckland had an easy win in the cricket final against Otago. Canterbury had little trouble in beating Victoria by 10 wickets.

Points for the athletics shields were won as follows:
