ORGANISERS’ VIEW
“Drastic Shaking Up Needed”
(Rec. 11 p.m.) MELBOURNE, April 11. The Olympic Games Organising Committee had no immediate official comment on Mr Avery Brundage’s criticism of their organisation today. But committee sources said privately that the criticism called for a "drastic shake-up.” Members doubted if the International Olympics Committee would contemplate taking the Games from Melbourne and said Mr Brundage wanted to shock Melbourne into action.
In Los Angeles, Sir Frank Beaurepaire, who was prominent in securing the Games for Melbourne, said Melbourne had passed the crisis stage in preparing for the Olympics and everything would be ready for November, 1956. "There was a lot of fuss at the start with the politicians and other blokes mixing it up, but now that the time is getting close everyone is pulling together,” he told a reporter. “There is no more trouble. Everybody is determined to make the Games a success,” he added.
