EGYPT AND JORDAN
Common Frontier Wanted (Rec. 8 p.m.) CAIRO. March 20. The Egyptian Minister for National Guidance (Mr Salah Salem) told a press conference today that Israel should give Jordan all Israel south of the line from Gaza to Beersheba. Mr Salem said that this will give Egypt a 60-mile common frontier with Jordan. Egypt and the Arab States had to have an uninterrupted overland route linking all Arab countries before they could side openly with the West and play their full part in the effective defence of the Middle East [Egypt at present has no landlink with Jordan.] Mr S?lem said that Israel is reported to have consented to an Arab “corridor” across the southern part of Israel, but this definition is unacceptable to the Arab States.
