AN ELECTRICALLY HEATED water-filled base, which fits on to an ordinary electric iron, is the invention of an Austrian, Josef Schemer. Escaping steam from the base damps the material as it is being pressed. The steam sole, as the inventor calls it, was shown at the Vienna Spring Fair.
