YOUNG CONTINGENT OF VICTORIA LEAGUE
Seventy-five new members joined the Young Contingent of the Victoria League during the year, says the report to be presented at the annual meeting this week. “We have added one child from the East End of London to our list of sponsored children under the Save the Children Fund, bringing the total to five,” says the report. Food parcels were sent to these children four times a year and in addition each child received a parcel of warm clothing at Christmas. A gift of £75 was made to the local branch of the Save the / Children Fund as a.result of the photographic competition. The contingent has also given £lO to the Canterbury and Westland branch' of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society for the purchase of a cupboard for the newly formed hobbies’ group. Social gatherings during the year included luncheon and supper meetings, cocktail parties, a jumble sale, musical evenings, a skating party, and an Empire ball. A profit on the Empire ball made it possible to grant additional gifts and widen activities during the year and still have a satisfactory surplus to carry forward at the end of the year. During the year the Young Contingent has been invited to be represented on several committees—the Save the Children Committee and the Immigration Welfare Committee, as well as attending various Empire Society activities.
