THIEVES BLOW SAFE AND TAKE £186
A safe in the premises of R. Hannah and Company, Ltd., at 230 High street, was blown open on Sunday afternoon and £lB6 in money was taken. The intruders had broken into the shop some time earlier and had tried to blow the safe open, but only succeeded in jamming the door. The manager (Mr I. M. Walker) visited the shop at 3 p.m., found it had been broken into and informed the police. Mr Walker left the shop at 4.30 p.m. and the police soon after. At 7.30 pan. when Mr Walker returned to the shop with an employee it was found that the intruders had returned in the meantime ' with more explosives and completed the job they had originally set out to do.
