N.Z. Study of Earthquake*—The New Zealand Institution of Engineers had succeeded in initiating a programme for the installation throughout the country of strong-motion seismographs, which would eventually be placed only about 50 miles apart, Mr V. A. Murphy reported at the annual conference of the New Zealand Institution Of Engineers in Christchurch. The intention was to gain information about earthquakes so that buildings, dams, and other structures could be designed to resist any likely earthquakes.
