GOVERNMENT OF FRANCE

Faure Likely To Be New Premier (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) PARIS, February 23. Mr Edgar Faure, a Radical, last night seemed certain of being elected the new Prime Minister of France at the head of a coalition of Centre and Rightwing parties. He will go before the National Assembly today with a list of Cabinet Ministers. After telling the President (Mr Rene Coty) last night that he was ready to go ahead, Mr Faure went back to work on his Ministerial list, which contains Popular Republicans, Radicals, and dissident de Gaullists. Mr Faure, who has been a Cabinet Minister 10 times, has put at the top of his programme the need for ratification of the Paris Agreements to rearm West Germany.
