INVASION ATTACK NOT MADE
(Rec. 8 p.m.) TAIPEH, February 23. The Nationalist Chinese Air Force reported today it destroyed or damaged more than 10 Communist ships on Tuesday in attacks on more than 200 armed junks and gunboats in the area of Nanchishan.
A communique early today gave the first official word on the interception of the formidable Communist naval force as it heads toward the island, northernmost of the Nationalist outposts. It said that strong Formosa-based bomber forces sank a 700-ton Communist gunboat and five armed motorised junks, and damaged two warships, two gunboats, and a number of junks.
