“ORIENTATION WEEK” AT UNIVERSITY
In an effort to help first-year students to adjust themselves to university life, the executive of the Canterbury University College Students’ Association will arrange an “orientation week” at the beginning of the first term this year. The idea of an “orientation week” to guide young students originated at Auckland University College, though the scheme has not been developed there so far as at Canterbury College. Still on a trial basis, “orientation week” was so successful at Canterbury University College last year that it is likely to become an annual event. A similar scheme will be started at Victoria University College this year. The .“orientation week” programme includes group talks led by senior students, who will , answer freshers’ questions and try to make them feel at home, as well as visits to staff members’ homes and an “orientation” ball.
