WATER FOR HOON HAY
LOAN OF £71,000 PROPOSED EARLY RETICULATION WORK Immediate steps will be taken by the City Council to raise a loan of £71,000 for the water reticulation of the Hoon Hay area so that the work may be put in hand as soon as possible after the amalgamation of the area with the city on April 1. The area joining the city from the Halswell county extends from Middle Lincoln road (not far from the main south railway line) to Cashmere road, and is considerably greater in extent than originally anticipated, the works committee reported to a meeting of the City Council. Generally, reticulation of proposed streets was excluded but where formation was under way pipelaying had been allowed for in the loan schedule, said the report. Most of the pumping station expenditure had likewise been omitted and would be met from ordinary revenue as distinct from loan. “The possibility of this Hoon Hay reticulation being a link with future development necessitates some larger sized pipes than would be required for Hoon Hay alone and this factor, together with the shape of the area, adds very considerably to the cost which is estimated at £71,000. Allowance has been made for the possibility of the council being unable to do this job by day labour because of staff shortages.”
